World Space Week 2025

World Space Week is an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition. The United Nations General Assembly declared in 1999 that World Space Week will be held each year from October 4-10. These dates commemorate two events:

  • October 4, 1957: Launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1, thus opening the way for space exploration
  • October 10, 1967: The signing of the treaty on principles governing the activities of States in the exploration and peaceful uses of outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies.

World Space Week 2025 Theme

This year, the theme "Living in Space" celebrates humanity’s journey toward making space a home beyond Earth. As we advance in space exploration, we are developing the technologies, systems, and knowledge needed for sustainable living in orbit, on the Moon, and even on Mars. From building life-support systems and growing food in microgravity to generating energy and recycling resources, these innovations pave the way for long-term human presence in space.

Living in space is not just about survival — it’s about creating thriving communities that can work, learn, and innovate beyond our home planet. The advancements made for space habitats also bring breakthroughs that improve life on Earth, from water purification to renewable energy solutions.

Join us in World Space Week 2025 to discover how living in space is turning from science fiction into reality, shaping the future of humanity both above and below the stars.
